Women’s Soccer End Final Match in 1-1 Double OT Draw

Billings, Mont. – Montana State Billings women's soccer team looked to bounce back after dropping their Thursday match against Western Oregon University. The Yellowjackets battled Saint Martin's University on their home turf to a 1-1 double overtime draw.
 
MSUB started their attack early, with Jaucelyn Richter taking the first shot of the contest at 1:43. The attempt landed on target but the Saints' Ashley Engel came up with a save on the play. While being denied on this effort, Richter's next attempt would find success. At 7:18 she stole a pass and blasted a 15 yard shot past Engel to give the Yellowjackets the early 1-0 lead. The score registered her fourth goal of the season.
 
The Saints countered with a Kari Inch attempt at 10:17, but her shot was denied by freshman goal keeper Aiko Johnson. MSUB's attack stayed strong as they outshot the opposition 5-2 to close the first half. While Richter's 12:26 attempt was on target, Engel effectively played the shot and made another save on the day.
 
The Jackets entered the break leading the Saints 1-0.
 
Saint Martin's struck fast at the start of the second half scoring the equalizer goal 49:25. Caley Wiseman received a pass from Nicole Nedervelt and completed the play getting the shot past Johnson to even the score at 1-1.
 
Maddie Hibbard tried to give the Saints a lead with her shot on goal attempt at 49:52 but Johnson made a great save on the play.
 
The Yellowjackets countered with strong attacks, outshooting Saint Martin's 10-1 between the 54th and 76 minute. Chelsea Shuman landed three shots on target during this barrage but unfortunately couldn't find success.
 
Heidi Greenback and Kristen Kastelic fired shots on target at 77:48 and 80:16 but Engel kept up her solid play and stopped both attempts. The Saints' Sasha Dini took a shot at 82:00 but her attempt was off target and both teams would end regulation even at 1-1.
 
MSUB and Saint Martin's went back and forth in the first overtime period only taking one shot each. Alisa Sagdahl's 98:16 header attempt was on target but saved by the opposition's goal keeper. The Yellowjackets and Saints could not break their tie and entered the last 10 minutes still even on the scoreboard.
 
Sagdahl stayed in rhythm and took another shot to start the second overtime period (100:23) but her attempt was off target. Neither team would take any other attempts and the match concluded in a 1-1 draw.
 
MSUB outshot Saint Martin's 21-10 and held the advantage in shots on target 9-4. Johnson finished with three saves in the match.
 
The Yellowjackets finish the regular season 12-5-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. They will now shift their attention to the inaugural GNAC Championship Tournament as they received the No. 3 seed and will square off against the No. 2 seed Seattle Pacific University. The contest will be held at the Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 8:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).
