BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Montana State Billings women's soccer team continued its hot start as did sophomore
Heidi Greenback who propelled the Yellowjackets to a 1-0 victory over cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College Thursday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field.
The Yellowjackets improved to 3-0-0 on the year, while dropping Rocky to 1-5 on the season.
In a scoreless first half, the Yellowjackets had their opportunities midway through and late in the half. A pair of offside calls dissolved a solid Jacket attack 20 minutes into the match.
A late through ball with under a minute to play found its way to the boot of
Jackie Hill but she was unable to track the ball down and get the shot off. It was one of a number of miscues in the first half for a frustrated Yellowjacket offense.
MSUB came out swinging in the second half as they began firing shots on the Rocky goal and finding open lanes to get the ball into.
It was in the 68
th minute that Greenback and the Jackets finally broke through. After
Janae Remsberg sent a cross into the box, sophomore
Jennifer Brookshire attempted to make a play on the ball at the same time as Rocky keeper Malin Johansson, creating a loose ball.
There to clean up the mess was Greenback who sent her right boot through the ball and into the back of the net for the game-winner. It was Greenback's fourth goal of the season and her first game-winner.
The Yellowjackets held a 13-6 edge in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. Jacket keeper
Danielle Gordon recorded her third shutout victory of the season.
The Yellowjackets now prepare for their first road test of the season this Saturday as they travel to Bismarck, N.D. to take on the University of Mary at 1 p.m. There will be live stats available for the match via the Mary athletics site, umary.edu/sports.
