Yellowjackets Drop Five-Set Road Match to Nanooks

Monica Grimsrud tied her season-high of 26 kills to lead the Montana State University Billings volleyball team as the Yellowjackets fell behind early Thursday night to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and never fully recovered, falling 2-3 (21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 8-15) to the Nanooks in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play on the road inside the Patty Center.
 
After the loss to the Nanooks, the Yellowjackets are now 8-6 overall in 2011 and 2-3 in league play. The win Thursday night was UAF's second in a row and just second of the season, moving the Nanooks to 2-12 overall and 2-4 in the GNAC.
 
Six Yellowjackets recorded multiple kills in the five-set loss as Grimsrud led all attackers with 26 terminations, tying her previous season and GNAC-high for most in a match this season. Chelsey Walter was the next closest to Grimsrud with nine kills of her own.
 
Brooke Tolman recorded her ninth double-double in a row, registering 46 assists and 21 digs.
 
Four Nanooks registered double-digit kills as Reilly Stevens collected a team-high 16 kills.
 
Despite dropping the match to UAF, MSUB registered four more blocks (9-5) and held the Nanooks to a .177 hitting percentage compared to the Yellowjackets .173.

MSUB will remain in Alaska for a Saturday GNAC match against the University of Alaska Anchorage. The match with the Seawolves is scheduled to get under way at 7 p.m.
