SEATTLE -- Sophomore Whitney Siler drove a looping 45 yard free kick into the box, which bounced over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net in the 77th minute as the Montana State Billings women's soccer team upended the No.14 nationally ranked Falcons of Seattle Pacific Thursday night.

“This is a huge win for us and our program as a whole,” said interim head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “The whole team had a great performance tonight and I'm very proud of all of them. We may not have had a lot of chances, but we made the most of our opportunities. I thought we moved the ball around very well tonight. I'm just extremely happy with this win and look forward to our match on Saturday.”

It's the first time in program history that the Yellowjackets have defeated the Falcons. The win also gives the Jackets a victory over every school in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. MSUB improves to 7-1-1 on the season and are 4-0-1 in the conference. The Falcons fell to 7-2-0 on the year and suffered their first conference loss of the season, falling to 4-1-0.

After a tight first half that saw both sides combine for just eight shots, the Falcons poured on the offense in the second half, outshooting the Jackets 18-1 in total shots.

Siler's goal came at 76:47 after a hand ball foul was called on the Falcons. Her ensuing free kick flew into the box and seemed like a routine service until the ball bounced in front of Natalie Harold and into goal, stunning the SPU faithful.

The defense continuously made play after play in the second half, and goalkeeper Danielle Gordon came up large for the Jackets, making six saves to record her fifth shutout of the season.

MSUB will continue the road trip this Saturday as they take on the Wildcats of Central Washington at 11 a.m. Live stats will be available for the match by using the live stats link on the women's soccer schedule page at msubsports.com.
