BILLINGS, Mont. -- Three second half goals lifted the Montana State Billings women's soccer team to 4-1 victory over the visiting Simon Fraser Clan Thursday afternoon at Yellowjacket Field in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference tilt.
The Yellowjackets improved to 5-1-1 on the season and are now 2-0-1 in conference play. With the loss, Simon Fraser dropped to 1-4-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in conference play.
Junior
Jaucelyn Richter continued her sizzling play as she took a cross that came through the box from
Tyshae Davis and placed the ball by the near post in the 40
th minute. It was Richter's fifth goal of the season, as the assist went to Davis and
Jennifer Johnson on the play.
It only took six minutes into the second half for the Clan to equalize as Anna Brancati took a low through ball and beat
Danielle Gordon into the lower left corner of the net.
The Jackets got the game-winner in the 61
st minute when
Adrienne Biglow sailed a ball off a corner kick over the heads of the defense and found a waiting
Jennifer Larsen who put the ball on spot for her first goal of the year.
The third goal came off the boot of senior
Amanda Brusic as she was in the right place at the right time. After Amelia Ng tried to clear a ball, Brusic was wide open and flicked the ball over everyone and into the upper right corner of the goal. It was Brusic's second goal of the year.
After applying even more pressure in the 85th minute, the Jackets caught a lucky break when a Simon Fraser player deflected the ball into her own net for the own goal.
The Yellowjackets controlled much of the match despite creating just four shots, all of which were on goal. The Clan managed six total shots and put three on goal. MSUB held a 7-1 edge on corner kicks in the match.
Gordon moved to 5-1-1 on the year in making two saves during the day. Ng fell to 1-4-0 after failing to make a save during the match.
The Yellowjackets will look to continue their success this Saturday afternoon when they play host to Western Washington University at 1:30 p.m. at Yellowjacket Field for Futbol Frenzy. The Yellowjackets earned their first win and first sweep of the Vikings last season.
