Yellowjacket Women Set for Conference Home Openers

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Great Northwest Athletic Conference home schedule kicks off this week for the Montana State Billings women's soccer squad with matches on Thursday and Saturday against Simon Fraser University and Western Washington University, respectively.

The Yellowjackets enter the second week of their GNAC schedule with a 4-1-1 overall record and a 1-0-1 record in the conference after a 3-1 victory over Saint Martin's and a 1-1 draw against Western Oregon last week.

The Yellowjackets are led in scoring by sophomore Heidi Greenback who has five goals and four assists for 14 total points. She scored the lone goal in the draw with Western Oregon and is currently ranked nationally in multiple categories. Greenback is 17th in points per game (2.33), 14th in total assists (4) and 15th in total points (14), leading the conference in those same categories.

Junior Jaucelyn Richter has suddenly caught fire as well, as the Billings native scored a hat trick in Thursday's victory over the Saints. It was Richter's first career hat trick and put her over her season total from a year ago when she scored three goals after scoring 10 during her freshman season.

The jackets have outshot opponents 86-45 in total shots and 50-23 in shots on goal. MSUB is scoring a 1.83 clip in goals scored per match and have taken 29 corners this season, while the opposition has just 11.

Looking at the Clan, Simon Fraser enters the week with a 1-3-0 record overall and a 0-2-0 record in the conference. They dropped their conference openers to Central Washington (0-2) and Seattle Pacific (0-2) last weekend.

SFU is led by Jessica Hadden and April Coffin who each have a goal for two points this season. Karm Jawandha and Selina Lynn lead the team in assists with one each.

The Clan is shooting .048 this season and have been outshot 51-42 by their opponents. They are allowing 1.25 goals per match and are scoring at a 0.50 clip.

Western Washington enters the week with a 2-2-2 record overall and are 1-1-0 in conference play. The Vikings suffered a 0-1 loss against Seattle Pacific and then defeated Central Washington 1-0 at home last week.

This is just the second time this season the Vikings have traveled on the road, dropping a 1-2 decision to Dominican (CA) earlier this year.

Emily Frankland currently leads the Vikings with two goals for four points, while Brina Sych and Kelly Cates have each scored a goal. Four other players have registered assists this season.

The Vikings have outshot opponents 83-71 and are equal with their opponents with a 0.61 goals against average.

The Yellowjackets and Clan kick-off Thursday at 4 p.m. with Saturday's match against Vikings scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. kick-off. Both games can been seen via web stream and live stats available through links on the homepage and schedule page at msubsports.com.
