Box Score
LACEY, Wash. -- Robert Mayes registered a double-double with a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds, 10 coming on the offensive end of the floor, as the Montana State Billings men's basketball team cruised to a 79-61 road victory over Saint Martin's Thursday night inside Marcus Pavilion.

The Yellowjackets improved to 7-4 on the season and are now 2-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, while the Saints dropped to 5-7 on the year and 1-2 in the conference.

"It was a very good road win for our team tonight," said head coach Jamie Stevens. "Our guys played extremely hard, anytime you can out-rebound a team by 30, that's a great indicator that our guys had a lot of energy tonight. Robert Mayes, Preston Richards and Emery Henning were giving us some great inside presence. I thought everyone played well and everyone contributed. Now we have a big trip ahead of us on Saturday and hopefully we can play with that same type of energy."

Mayes was 8-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line as the Jackets collectively went 10-of-14 from the charity stripe. Three other players were in double figures as Jaxon Myaer had 18 points, Antoine Proctor scored 17 and had six rebounds and Emery Henning had one of his best performances of the season with 11 points and eight boards.

The Yellowjackets owned the boards during the game, recording their highest margin of the season with a 57-27 advantage, including a game-high 15 from Preston Richards. MSUB shot 46.9 percent (30-64) from the floor and were 9-of-23 from beyond the arc.

Saint Martin's struggled through the night as they shot just 35.3 percent (24-68) from the floor and was a dismal 3-of-14 from deep. Jeremy Green led the Saints with 20 points, while Roger O'Neill scored 15 and Ryan Votaw and Brok Pendleton each scored 10.

The Yellowjackets, who never trailed in the game, broke the only tie of the game at 9-9 with a three-pointer from Proctor at the 14:59 mark. That trey sparked a 12-2 run over the next four minutes, which was capped by another Proctor three-pointer.

The Jackets maintained the double-digit lead throughout much of the first half, increasing the lead by as many as 14 with 1:47 to go on a lay-in by Proctor. MSUB took a 13 point lead into the break as neither team scored over the final 1:10.

Over the first nine minutes of the second half, Saint Martin's tried to battle back as they climbed back to within seven points at 48-55 on a bucket and free throw by Green at 11:55. The Yellowjackets had the answer though as they went on a 16-2 run that increased their lead to 23 (77-54) with 2:45 remaining.

MSUB would only score a pair of Myaer free throws the rest of the way, but it didn't matter as they cruised to the 18-point victory.

The Jackets outscored SMU 36-22 in the paint and converted 23 second chance points, while the Saints had just 11. The MSUB bench also won the battle as they outscored SMU 20-6.

The Yellowjackets continue their road trip with a visit to Monmouth, Ore., this Saturday as they take on Western Oregon University at 2 p.m. local time. Live stats and a webcast will be available for the contest through the Western Oregon website.
