Volleyball Drops Final Road Match of Season 0-3 to Vikings

BELLINGHAM, Wash.
– Freshman Monica Grimsrud had 16 kills to lead the Montana State University Billings volleyball team as the Yellowjackets finished their 2011 road-schedule with a 0-3 loss (25-16, 25-23, 25-20) to the Vikings of Western Washington University Saturday night in Bellingham.
 
The Yellowjackets are now 11-15 overall (5-12 GNAC) while the Vikings improve to 15-5 overall (13-3 GNAC).
 
“Western Washington is just a really good team,” said head coach Steve Smith. “Monica had another good night, but we were not able to get much going offensively. Hopefully we can finish our season strong at home next weekend.”
 
Grimsrud had a team-high 16 kills in the match while hitting .137 (16-9-51) and registered the team's only double-double; she corralled in a team-high 15 digs. Senior setter Brooke Tolman had a team-high 36 assists.
 
Krista Norris registered six kills while a trio of players, Chelsey Walter, Taylor Adams and Melissa Porter, all had five kills in the match. Porter led the 'Jackets with a .333 hitting percentage (5-1-12).
 
The teams were fairly evenly matched at the net with the Vikings barely beating out MSUB 4-3 on total team blocks.
 
WWU was able to hold MSUB to a .176 hitting percentage while hitting .276 as a team.
 
The Yellowjackets will return home for their season finale on Saturday, Nov. 12 when the Falcons of nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific University will travel to Billings for the 'Jackets' senior night. The match will serve as the night-cap of a full day of MSUB sporting events inside Alterowitz Gymnasium as both basketball squads will be in action earlier in the afternoon.
