‘Jackets Earn 3-0 Road Victory Over Clan

– The Montana State University Billings volleyball team continued to find momentum Thursday night as they traveled to British Columbia where they easily defeated Simon Fraser University 3-0, earning the season sweep over the Clan inside the West Gym in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
 
MSUB's second win in a row improves them to 11-14 on the season and 5-11 in league action while the Clan fall to 1-18 overall and 1-14 in the GNAC.
 
“It was a solid road win for us tonight,” said third-year head coach Steve Smith. “It is always nice to win on the road, and it gives us some confidence heading into Saturday's road match as well. Hopefully we can put together a complete effort and come ready to play like we did tonight.”
 
The Yellowjackets' dominance was never in question Thursday night as MSUB claimed the three-set match 25-22, 25-13 and 25-12. The Clan's only lead came in the first set when SFU eased out to an early 6-3 lead but the 'Jackets would control the going from there.
 
Freshman middle blocker Monica Grimsrud hit lights-out with a match-high 12 terminations while hitting an impressive .346 (12-3-26) to go along with three service aces. It was her 21st double-digit outing of the season.
 
Melissa Porter and Taylor Adams both had solid nights as well. Porter recorded eight kills while hitting .333 (8-3-15) and Adams hit a team-best .455 (6-1-11).
 
Senior setter Brooke Tolman registered 28 assists in the contest while libero Erin Compton led all players with 13 digs.
 
Not a single member of the Clan registered double-digit kills as Amanda Renkema and Kristjana Fridfinnson led the way with six kills each.
 
As a team, MSUB hit above their season average at .280 while holding SFU to a .056 hitting percentage. The Clan hit .000 and -.040 in the second and third sets.
 
The Yellowjackets will continue their final road excursion of the season, heading to Western Washington on Saturday, Nov. 5 for a 7 p.m. match. The Yellowjackets will return home for their final match of the season against currently 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific University on Saturday, Nov. 12. The game against the Falcons will serve as MSUB's “Senior Night.”
