NAMPA, Idaho. -- The Montana State Billings women's soccer team scored a season-high five goals and got an own goal from Northwest Nazarene in routing the Crusaders 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the NNU Soccer Field in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
A pair of goals from sophomore
Jennifer Brookshire led the way for the Yellowjackets, who improved to 8-1-2 on the season and remained unbeaten in conference play at 5-0-2. The Crusaders fell 4-7-0 on the year and are now 2-5-0 in the GNAC.
“Today was a really good team effort,” said interim head coach
Wojtek Krakowiak. “It's always good to get a result like this on the road, especially in conference. I thought a huge difference in today was that we put our chances away. Now we have to go back home and prepare to take care of business next week.”
Northwest Nazarene helped get the Jackets on the board early in the 5
th minute of the match when Sarah Blum got her head on a ball that was sent into the box by MSUB, but the ball deflected backwards and went into her own net.
MSUB cashed in again in the 37
th minute as
Whitney Siler delivered a ball that deflected off of sophomore
Jackie Hill and found Brookshire who scored from five yards out, beating Tanya Zickefoose for her first goal of the season.
Heidi Greenback put the Jackets ahead 3-0 just 35 seconds later as she fired her sixth goal of the season in from the left side, five yards out with an assist from Hill and junior
Jaucelyn Richter. The goal matched the second fastest time elapsed between goals in program history.
Brookshire again struck in the second half in the 52
nd minute, taking a ball from Richter and Greenback and putting it past Zickefoose from seven yards out on the left side.
A corner kick set up the fourth Yellowjacket goal as
Adrienne Biglow served a fantastic ball into the box and found the head of
Jennifer Larsen who put the ball in from five yards out for her second goal of the year in the 77
th minute.
The final goal of the day came in the 78
th minute as senior
Tyshae Davis fed freshman
Jennifer Johnson on a cross and the freshman scored from four yards out to put the Jackets up 6-0.
MSUB only outshot NNU 8-7 in total shots and just 7-5 in shots on goal, but converted five of those shots into points. The Jackets also controlled the corners, holding a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Danielle Gordon made four saves in earning her eighth victory of the season, while Zickefoose made two saves in dropping to 4-7-0 on the year.
The Yellowjackets now return home for a pair of conference tilts next week, hosting Western Oregon University and Saint Martin's University Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
