Yellowjackets Face Crusaders in Lone Weekly Matchup

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Montana State Billings women's soccer team looks to continue their successful season this week as they travel to Northwest Nazarene Saturday afternoon for their only Great Northwest Athletic Conference tilt of the week.

The Yellowjackets are coming off a major upset of No.14 Seattle Pacific and a 1-1 draw with Central Washington last weekend. The victory over the Falcons was the first in program history and allowed the Jackets to stay near the top of the conference standings.

This week MSUB enters their matchup with the Crusaders at 7-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in the conference. The Jackets also moved up three spots in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America west region poll, from eighth to fifth.

Sophomore Heidi Greenback currently leads the team in scoring with 15 points, scoring five goals and five assists on the year. She also leads the conference in points per game (1.5), assists per game (0.5) and total assists (5.0), ranking nationally in all three categories, including 24th in total assists.

Junior Jaucelyn Richter has also been on fire this season, scoring six goals and an assist for 13 total points, as well as leading the team in shots (49) and shots on goal (31).

Emerging from the back line, Whitney Siler was awarded the GNAC player of the week honor this past week for her exceptional defensive play and her game-winning goal against the Falcons. She has two goals and an assist this season as a defender.

The goalkeeping for the Jackets has also been elevated as Danielle Gordon has recorded five shutouts this season, including the 1-0 victory over SPU. She has a 0.57 goals against average which is third in the conference and has made 28 saves this year.

Northwest Nazarene comes into the match with a 4-6-0 record overall and are currently sixth in the league standings with a 2-4-0 record. The Crusaders have dropped two straight matches, losing 3-1 at Central Washington and 4-0 at Seattle Pacific last week.

The Crusaders do boast the league's top goal scorer in Autumn Yturbe who has six goals through 10 matches. Only one other player, Jenny Field, has more than one goal this year with four.

NNU has been outscored 18-15 this season and outshot 159-96. The defense has relied upon keeper Tanya Zickefoose to keep the ball out of the net, making 66 saves and recording three shutouts.

Saturday's match will complete a three-game road trip over two weeks for the Yellowjackets and leave MSUB with just two more road games. The Jackets will have five of their final seven matches at home, including a rematch with SPU and CWU.
