Yellowjackets Fall on the Road to Falcons 0-3

Boxscore

SEATTLE, Wash.
– The Montana State University Billings volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-15 and 25-22) to the Falcons of Seattle Pacific University on the road during a rare Monday night Great Northwest Athletic Conference match inside Brougham Pavilion Monday night.

The Yellowjackets are now 9-13 during the 2011 season (3-10 GNAC) while the Falcons improve to 17-5 (11-3 GNAC) to remain in the hunt for the 2011 GNAC title.

MSUB fought hard in the first set as both teams played their best during the opening set, but both teams struggled mightily in the second set with the Yellowjackets falling behind 2-0 entering intermission.

After the break, the Yellowjackets came out and established a five-point lead, working hard to maintain that lead in hopes of sending the match into at least a fourth set. But late in the third set, the Falcons regained their composure and rallied back to claim the match.

Freshman Monica Grimsrud continued to hit well on the road, tallying another double-double as she recorded a match-high 15 kills, eight in the first set alone, to go along with 12 digs. Melissa Porter was the next closest Yellowjacket with seven kills.

Lindsey Wodrich paced SPU with 12 kills as neither team hit particularly well. MSUB was held to a .103 hitting percentage while SPU hit .165.

The Yellowjackets will return home later this week, hoping to end their five-match losing skid. On Thursday, Oct. 27 the Seawolves of the University of Alaska Anchorage will travel to Billings for their 7 p.m. rematch with MSUB before the Nanooks of Alaska Fairbanks come calling on Saturday, Oct. 29.
