Monica Grimsrud recorded both recorded double-doubles but the Montana State University Billings volleyball team was unable to contain the Saints of Saint Martin's University Saturday night as the Saints defeated the Yellowjackets 3-0 (25-22, 25-16 and 25-19) in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action.
With the loss, MSUB finds itself 9-12 overall and 3-9 in the GNAC while the Saints are now 5-14 and 4-9 in the league.
“Monica and Melissa were both spot on tonight,” said head coach Steve Smith. “Melissa had one of her better matches of the season, but we just couldn't produce as a team.”
Grimsrud tallied 12 kills and 14 digs to lead the 'Jackets but it was not enough to lift the team to victory.
Melissa Porter was the only other Yellowjacket in double-digits for kills with 11 as she hit a solid .316 (11-5-19) for the match.
Tolman registered 31 assists to go along with 10 digs in the loss for her 11
th double-double of the season.
Kristyn Ross led all attackers with 14 kills for Saint Martin's as she also had a double-double (one of two for the Saints)
The Saints had eight team blocks to the Yellowjackets' three and held MSUB to a .103 hitting percentage.
The Yellowjackets will remain on the road for a rare Monday match in Seattle, Wash. against the Falcons of Seattle Pacific University.
