Yellowjackets Looking to Rebound from Weekend

BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Montana State Billings women's soccer team suffered their first setback of the year in conference play and now look to rebound this weekend with a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference matches against Western Washington University and Simon Fraser University.
 
The Yellowjackets managed a 1-1 draw with Western Oregon, but fell to Saint Martin's University on Saturday with a 1-0 loss in overtime, the second overtime loss of the season. The Jackets remain in second place in the GNAC standings with an 8-2-3 record overall and a 5-1-3 record in the conference.
 
Junior Jaucelyn Richter leads the Yellowjackets with seven goals on the year, while sophomore Heidi Greenback leads the team in points with 18 (6g, 6a). Richter ranks second in the GNAC in goals per game with 0.538, while Greenback is second in the league in points per game with 1.38.
 
The Yellowjackets have outscored their opponents 25-9 this season and have limited the opposition to a .073 shot percentage and a .382 shots on goal percentage. MSUB has outshot opponents 88-47 in shots on goal.
 
Keeper Danielle Gordon has had help from defenders Jennifer Larsen, Whitney Siler and Kristen Kastelic in earning five shutouts this season. Gordon has a  0.65 goals against average which ranks second in the league and ranks third in saves percentage at .804.

Senior midfielder Justina MacDowell, who earned GNAC co-Player of the Week honors earlier this fall, has three goals and one assist for seven points to lead the Vikings. Tied for that point total is sophomore midfielder Brina Sych, who scored the goal against Central.

Senior midfielder Megan Chapin tops WWU in assists with four. That is tied for third among GNAC leaders.
Junior goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs is first in the GNAC in shutouts with six and third in goals against average at 0.77. She has helped the Vikings to a 6-5-2 record overall and a 5-4-0 record in the conference.

The Clan come into the week with a 1-9-1 record overall and are 0-8-1 in league play. Their lone tie of the season was last weekend in a scoreless draw with Central Washington. SFU is winless in their last nine contests, dating back to a 2-0 win over Thompson River Sept. 4.

The Clan has scored just three goals during the year, as Anna Brancati, Jessica Hadden and April Coffin have all registered one goal. Three other players have recorded an assist as no player has scored multiple goals or assists this season.

The Yellowjackets earned a 1-0 win over Western Washington at home on Sept. 24, their third straight 1-0 victory over the Vikings. The Jackets also scored a 4-1 victory over SFU in the match before on Sept. 22 at home.

Thursday's contest will kick-off at 4 p.m., while Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. in Burnaby.
