BILLINGS, Mont. -- The Montana State Billings women's soccer team didn't control much of the match, but they did enough to earn a 1-1 draw against Western Oregon University Thursday afternoon in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match at Yellowjacket Field.

“It was good to get the point, but we should've put them away,” said interim head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “I was disappointed with the first half, but we came out and played a lot better in the second half and the overtimes. We did a good job of creating chances, but just didn't finish. Now we have to prepare for Saturday and another tough match.”

The Yellowjackets are now 8-1-3 on the season and are 5-0-3 in the GNAC. MSUB also ran their unbeaten streak to eight games with the draw. Western Oregon improved their record to 4-5-3 on the year and 3-3-2 in the conference as the two sides played to their second 1-1 draw of the season.

Western Oregon controlled much of the first half, but was unable to solve the Yellowjackets back line. MSUB managed just three shots, never trying Wolves keeper Brittney Rigtrup.

The Yellowjackets broke through on the scoreboard first when Jaucelyn Richter took a long pass from Jennifer Brookshire and then dribbled around Rigtrup and put the ball in the open goal during the 61st minute. The goal was Richter's team-leading seventh of the season.

The Wolves didn't take long to respond as Kymberly Witmer and Chelsy Okuma connected on a pair of passes to send a beautiful cross into the box to the feet of a wide open Taylor Thompson who finished with a shot into the upper left corner in the 65th minute.

After stagnant first overtime, MSUB had a great chance of finishing the match in the 101st minute when Richter ripped a shot that cleared the right hand of a diving Rigtrup, but the ball bounced off the crossbar to keep the game level.

Western Oregon controlled the shots total (10-9), but the Jackets dominated the corners with a 7-2 advantage and a 4-3 edge in shots on goal.

Both keepers had a tremendous day as MSUB keeper Danielle Gordon made two saves, but had numerous plays to keep the Wolves off the board. Rigtrup made three saves, but she too came up multiple times to stymie any MSUB threat.

The Yellowjackets will now take on Saint Martin's University this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. That match can be seen on webcast or live stats on msubsports.com.
