Yellowjackets Look for First Road Victory at Fairbanks

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings men's basketball team continues its Alaska road trip Saturday, Jan. 8, taking on the University of Alaska Fairbanks at 3:15 p.m. at the Patty Center in Fairbanks. The Yellowjackets will be seeking their first road victory of the season.

 

The Jackets enter Saturday with a 3-9 record overall and 1-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. MSUB is coming off a tough 73-52 setback in Anchorage on Wednesday night.

 

The Nanooks come into Saturday with a record of 3-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play. UAF suffered an 84-61 defeat at the hands of Seattle Pacific Thursday night in Fairbanks.

 

The Yellowjackets have four players averaging double-digits this season. DeAndre Chambers leads that list 12.9 points per game. Robert Mayes has been the most consistent Jacket on the list, averaging 11.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

 

The team has been shooting 45.8 percent from the floor through their first 12 games this season. MSUB is shooting just 32.4 percent from long range and only 67.2 percent from the charity stripe.

 

Opponents have been outscoring the Jackets by 6.2 points per game this season and out-rebounding MSUB by 1.0 per game.

 

Fairbanks boasts the nation's leading scoring this season in Parish West. West is averaging 25.5 points per game and collects 5.4 rebounds per game. Jarrett Miller is the only other Nanook in double figures for scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. Boe Edwards currently leads the team in rebounds, averaging 5.7 per game.

 

UAF has struggled from the field this season, shooting just 42.7 percent from the field and only 27.8 percent from three-point range. The Nanooks have been somewhat consistent from the free throw line, knocking down 75.0 percent of their shots.

 

The Nanooks have been outscored by 7.8 points per game this season and have been dominated on the boards, being out-rebounded by 11.8 rebounds per contest. UAF does take care of the ball compared to their opponents, turning the ball over 14.8 times per game, while creating 19.8 turnovers.
