Jackets Appear on FSN Northwest Wednesday Night

BILLINGS, Mont. – Coming off their first win in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference this season the Montana State Billings men's basketball team heads to Alaska Anchorage for a televised showdown on Fox Sports Northwest Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.

The game kicks off a nine game agreement the conference signed with the regional television company just before the start of the basketball season. FSN will televise eight GNAC regular-season games along with the GNAC Men's Conference championship game on Friday, Mar. 4 at 5 p.m. PST.  The winner of that game qualifies for the NCAA Division II West Regionals that begin Friday, Mar. 11.

It will be the first television appearance for the Jackets since taking on Gonzaga University on Nov. 15, 2008, in an exhibition game at GU. That game was also broadcast on FSN Northwest.

The game can be found locally on channel 23 for Bresnan customers, channel 644 on DIRECT TV and channel 414 on Dish Network. The broadcast will begin at 8:30 p.m. MST with tip scheduled for 8:40 p.m. as Brad Adam and Francis Williams will have all of the play-by-play and color commentary.

Fans in the Billings area can go to Hooligans Sports Bar for a watch party, as MSUB has rented out the giant screen in the back to watch the game. There are drink specials and prizes to be given away as well. Fans in the Helena area can attend a watch party at Bleachers Sports Pub.

There will be live stats available for those who cannot watch the game on T.V. or make it to either watch party. However, fans in the FSN Northwest region will not be able to watch the game on the live stream as the game is being blacked out. Fans in the rest of the country will have the opportunity to watch a web stream of the game by visiting the schedule page at msubsports.com and clicking on the live video link.

Looking at the game, MSUB is hoping to ride a new wave during the 2011 portion of the schedule. After running a 2-8 during 2010, the Jackets kicked off the New Year with a thrilling 80-77 victory over Western Oregon.

The Yellowjackets held a 24 point lead at one point early in the second half, but a scoring drought over six minutes allowed the Wolves to get back in to the game and cut the lead to just two. Free throws down the stretch allowed the Jackets to hang on to a three point victory.

Robert Mayes (Houston, TX) and Emery Henning (Great Falls, MT) both had superb games, combining for 37 points and 11 rebounds for the Jackets. DeAndre Chambers (Monroe, NC) added 12 points and nine assists, while Leon Sutton (Las Vegas, NV) had an eight point, eight assist night.

This season the Yellowjackets are shooting 45.9 percent from the field and are only 32.7 percent behind the arc. Opponents have been held to 46.1 percent shooting from the field but are nearly five percent better from deep and over four percent better from the charity stripe.

The Jackets do have four players in double-figures on the season, led by Chambers who is scoring 13.5 points per contest. Mayes has been the dominant player on the board this season, averaging 7.4 boards per game to go along with his 12.0 point average.

Looking at the Seawolves, UAA is riding a nine game winning-streak in to Wednesday night's game. The last loss for the Seawolves came on Nov. 25, in a 86-54 setback to Division I member, Weber State.

Taylor Rohde leads UAA in scoring with 15.7 points per game and has been the leading rebounder as well, pulling down 6.5 boards per game. Brandon Walker and Lonnie Ridgeway are also averaging double digit points, and both are at least 80.0 percent free throw shooters.

As a team, UAA has shot 47.3 percent from the floor this season, holding opponents to a dismal 42.9 percent from the floor. The Seawolves have buried 39.2 percent of their shots from three-point range, while shooting 69.6 percent from the line.

The Yellowjackets will be taking on the Seawolves for the fifth time under head coach George Pfeifer, recording a record of 2-2 with both teams winning games at home. The 2009-10 squad fell 80-72 in Anchorage last season, but came away with a 65-60 victory at home.

After completing Wednesday night's contest, MSUB will travel to Fairbanks to take on Alaska Fairbanks Saturday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. local time. That game can be seen on webstream and live stats by going to the Alaska Fairbanks website.
