Box Score

BURNABY, B.C. – Sophomore Jaucelyn Richter (Billings, MT, Billings Senior HS) scored the only goal of the match in a driving rain to help the Montana State Billings women's soccer team shut out Simon Fraser University, 1-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference tilt Thursday evening at Terry Fox Field.

The Yellowjackets improved to 5-1-1 on the season and moved to 2-1-0 in GNAC play. It was the program's first victory over the Clan in three meetings (1-2).

Simon Fraser, who was ranked No.18 this week in the NSCAA/NAIA rankings, dropped to 3-2-0 this season and is now 2-1-0 in their first season in the GNAC.

“Tonight was just a solid all-around performance for our side,” said Yellowjacket coach Don Trentham. “It was nice to finally get that first goal in a game and be able to play our style. The individual and team defensive effort was superb in difficult weather. I'm happy to come on the road and get a win over a ranked opponent and now we're looking forward to our match on Saturday.”

Richter gave the Yellowjackets the lead in the 24th minute, taking a touch from Kari Foreman (Lakewood, CO, Bear Creek HS), after Foreman created a turnover at midfield, and sprinted up the left side past a SFU defender and drove the ball past a diving Amelia Ng. It was Richter's second goal of the season and Foreman's second assist.

Richter and Foreman had the only shots for the Yellowjackets, Richter taking five and Foreman taking one.

SFU received four shots, two on goal, from leading scorer, April Coffin. Six other players for the Clan recorded shots on the night.

Simon Fraser held an 11-6 edge in shots and a 3-2 edge on corner kicks. MSUB freshman goalkeeper, Sabrina Grandke-Bawab (Kirkland, WA, Juanita HS), recorded her first career shutout by making seven saves, improving her record to 3-0-1.

The win tonight was also the first win over a nationally ranked opponent for the Yellowjackets in program history.

The Yellowjackets finish their road trip this Saturday when they travel to NSCAA 20th ranked Western Washington. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Orca Field on the campus of Whatcom CC. Live stats are available at: http://www.wwugamedaystats.com/livestats/
