BILLINGS, Mont. – Looking for its first win of the season, the Montana State Billings volleyball team heads on its first Great Northwest Athletic Conference road trip of the season this week, at Saint Martin's University and Western Oregon University. The Yellowjackets stand at 0-10 on the year and 0-2 in conference play.
MSUB travels to Saint Martin's for a 7 p.m. PT start Thursday and then heads to Western Oregon on Saturday for a 7 p.m. PT start.
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets this season is Jennifer Boe (Casper, WY, Kelly Walsh HS) who leads the team with 122 kills and a 3.13 kills per set average. Hannah Johnson (San Diego, CA, La Costa Canyon HS) is second in kills with 83 and Melissa Porter (Redmond, UT, North Sevier HS) is third with 65. Brooke Tolman (Honeyville, UT, Central Wyoming College) leads the team with 293 assists at a 7.51 clip. Morgan Moss (Fowler, CO, Fowler HS) leads the team with 163 digs, while Boe is second with 118 and Tolman is third with 88.
Porter leads the team with 33 blocks and is tied with Geneva Blunt (Colstrip, MT, Colstrip HS) for the team lead in solo blocks with eight. Blunt is second in total blocks with 26.
As a team, the Yellowjackets are hitting .098 for the year with 368 kills and 235 errors. The Jackets have 332 assists with 561 digs and 71 total blocks. Conversely, the opponents have 512 kills, 220 errors, 465 assists, 661 digs and 69.5 total blocks.
Saint Martin's enters the week with a 1-8 record overall and a 1-3 mark in conference play. The Saints swept GNAC newcomer, Simon Fraser University, on the road for their first conference victory in 29 conference matches dating back to a 3-1 win over the Yellowjackets on Oct. 9, 2008. It also snapped an overall 14-match losing streak.
The Saints are led by Katy Ferguson who leads the team with 67 kills. Malia Ibarra is second on the team with 66 kills. Kristeen Juarez leads the team with 190 assists, while Brianna Bautista leads the team with 148 digs. Ibarra is second in digs with 109.
Defensively, Ferguson leads the team with 29 total blocks and eight solo blocks. Teilissa Tua is second in total blocks with 21.
As a team, the Saints have 298 kills with 180 errors and 266 assists. SMU has 517 digs with 56 total blocks. The opposition has 402 kills with 174 errors and 363 assists to go along with 548 digs and 41 total blocks.
MSUB leads the all-time series with SMU 6-2. The Saints lead 2-1 in Lacey, while MSUB leads 4-0 in Billings and 1-0 in neutral site matches. MSUB has won the past three meetings in straight sets.
Western Oregon enters the week with a 5-4 record overall and a 3-1 mark in conference play. The Wolves are led by Danielle Reese who leads the team with 112 kills. Jorden Burrows leads the team with 313 assists, while Megan Triggs leads with 181 digs and Krissi Kemper has 30 total blocks.
As a team the Wolves have recorded 375 kills, 177 errors and 352 assists. WOU has 491 digs and 62 total blocks. Conversely, the opponents have 352 kills with 177 errors and 334 assists. They have tallied 521 digs and 55 total blocks.
WOU leads the all-time series 7-3. The Wolves own a 3-1 lead in Monmouth and a 3-0 lead in neutral site matches. MSUB leads 2-1 in Billings. The Jackets swept both matches last season. Prior to that, MSUB won just one match in the last eight.
