Box Score

Lakewood, Colo. – The Montana State Billings women's soccer team improved to 3-0 on the season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Colorado Christian Friday afternoon at the CCU Soccer Field. The Yellowjackets had three players score in the contest, led by freshman, Heidi Greenback (Woodinville, WA), who had a pair of goals and an assist.

“We were pleased with today's result,” said MSUB head coach, Don Trentham. “Everyone had a great game again today after giving up the early goal. We knew Colorado Christian would be up for this game being it was their first home game, but we were able to settle down and make some big plays.”

The Cougars (0-3) struck the first blow in the fifth minute when Ciara Meredith placed a corner kick on the head of Brittany Corona, who put the ball past MSUB keeper, Jordan Fenwick (Boise, ID). That shot proved to be the only shot on goal for the Cougars in the entire match.

The lead last for 15 minutes as the Yellowjackets had the ball in the box when the Cougars were called for a foul, giving the Jackets a penalty kick at the 19:29 mark. Sophomore, Jennifer Larsen (Mesa, AZ), took the penalty kick and put it past Liana Signorile for her second goal of the season and the equalizer.

The Yellowjackets struck again just before the half when Greenback took the ball from fellow freshman, Whitney Siler (Monroe, WA), and took a shot that found the back of the net with just 25 seconds remaining for her first goal of the night and Siler's second career assist. The goal proved to be the game-winner, the second of the season for Greenback.

“Heidi (Greenback) had a big game for us today,” continued Trentham. “She was able to help create a lot of plays, but also had some great finishes in the box.”

It didn't take long for the Jackets to strike again in the second half, as Jaucelyn Richter (Billings, MT) blasted a shot by Signorile for her first goal of the year with the assist coming from Greenback.

The final goal came three minutes later, again from Greenback, when she got the ball from Lauren Anderson and put it into the net to seal the victory for the Yellowjackets. It was Greenback's third goal of the year and Anderson's first assist on the young season.

The Yellowjacket offense saw plenty of opportunities, firing 11 total shots throughout the game, nine of which were on goal. MSUB had just one corner kick in the match.

Defensively, MSUB shut down the Cougars after allowing the first goal, giving up just two shots the rest of the match. The Cougars managed a pair of corner kicks as the back line didn't allow much to threaten the goalkeepers. Fenwick picked up her second win of the season, splitting time with Sabrina Grandke-Bawab between the posts.

“The defense played very well again today,” said Trentham. “We had several players that stepped up after that early goal and really closed up the chances for Colorado Chrisitan.”

The Yellowjackets stay on the road with a trip to Golden, Colo., to take on Colorado School of Mines Sunday, Sept. 10, at 12 p.m. The game will have live stats available through the Mines website at http://livestats.prestosports.com/csmorediggers/.
