BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings volleyball team travels to cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College Monday evening for a non-conference match at the Fortin Center. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Yellowjackets stand at 5-21 on the year, while the Battlin' Bears are 23-6 overall and ranked 19th in the latest NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) poll.
The Yellowjackets are coming off of a split of two conference home matches this past week. MSUB downed Simon Fraser in one of its most complete performances of the season Thursday, 3-0. No. 15 Western Washington defeated the Yellowjackets 3-0 Saturday evening.
Leading the way for MSUB this season is senior Jennifer Boe who leads the team with 286 kills and 300 digs. Second on the team in kills is junior Melissa Porter with 164. Sophomore Hannah Johnson is third with 159 kills. Junior setter, Brooke Tolman, leads the team with 731 assists. Porter leads the team with 80 total blocks and 24 solo blocks, while freshman Adrienne Kelso is second in digs with 241.
In the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, Boe is third in kills, while Tolman is second in assists. Porter leads the conference in solo blocks and is fourth in total blocks. Boe also ranks sixth in digs.
As a team, the Jackets are hitting .105 on the year with 893 kills and 826 assists. MSUB has committed 571 errors and has 134 service aces. Defensively, the Jackets have recorded 1239 digs and have 180.5 total blocks with 58 solo blocks.
Rocky has won six-straight and 13 of 14. The Battlin' Bears have lost just six sets in their past 14 matches for a 40-6-set winning streak. Leading the way for the Battlin' Bears this season is Sarah Brunner who leads the team with 226 kills. Jillian Bates is second with 198 kills and leads the team with a .257 hitting percentage.
Kristin Barott has 813 assists on the year to lead the team, while Jamie Elenbaas leads the team with 276 digs. Overstreet is second in digs with 268 and leads the team with 19 solo blocks and 58 total blocks.
As a team, the Battlin' Bears are hitting .271 as a team with 1124 kills and 993 assists. RMC has committed 332 errors and has 128 service aces. Defensively, they have recorded 1456 digs, 80 solo blocks and 235 block assists.
RMC downed the Yellowjackets 3-0 in Alterowitz Gymnasium, Oct. 4. The Jackets lead the all-time series 35-15 and 11-10 at Rocky. MSUB also leads 24-5 in Alterowitz Gymnasium. The Jackets have won 12 of the past 15 matches. The Jackets last win at Rocky came in a 3-1 win Oct. 2, 2007.
MSUB then returns home for the season finale Sat., Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. versus Seattle Pacific on Senior Night. The Jackets will honor their lone senior, Boe, prior to the match.
