Yellowjackets Travel to Chadron State Monday

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women's basketball team travels to Chadron State College Monday for a non-conference game.  The Yellowjackets enter the game with a 2-2 record, while Chadron State is 0-2.  Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m. local time.

The Yellowjackets are led by senior Beata Bak who leads the team averaging 13.8 points per game.  Senior Kayla Ryan is second in scoring at 10 points per contest and leads the team in rebounding at 8.8 per game.  Bak is second on the boards at a 7.3 clip.  Bak also leads the team with 19 made field goals, while junior Kalli Stanhope leads the team with seven made triples.

As a team, the Yellowjackets are shooting 35 percent on the year with 80 made field goals.  They are 24 of 89 from long range and are 44 of 68 from the charity stripe.  The Jackets average 38.2 rebounds per game and 57 points per game.

Conversely, the opponents are shooting 34 percent from the field and 28 percent from beyond the arc.  They are shooting 58 percent from the line and average 41.8 rebounds per game.  The Jackets are allowing an average of 51.2 points per game.

MSUB went 2-1 in California last week with two impressive wins over Cal State Dominguez and Notre Dame de Namur.  The Jackets allowed just 79 points in the two wins with the lone loss being to Cal State Monterey Bay. 

Defensively the Yellowjackets were outstanding in their two wins, holding Cal State Dominguez to 17 percent shooting and Notre Dame de Namur to 28 percent.  Bak had double-doubles in both wins, including 20 points and 11 rebounds against Notre Dame de Namur.

Chadron State is playing its third home game of the season and is coming off a 71-44 loss to the University of Mary, Nov. 22.  The Eagles are led by Kelsey Scott who is averaging 11 points in two starts.  Kaitlin Petri tallied 19 points in just one game off the bench thus far.  Scott leads the team with eight made field goals and four triples.  Kada Williams leads the team averaging 5.5 rebounds per game.

The Eagles have really struggled shooting the ball to the tune of 30 for 107 for just 28 percent.  The also have struggled from beyond the arc for 24 percent (10 of 42).  Chadron State is pulling down 39 rebounds per game, but allows 50.5 rebounds.  The opposition is shooting 38 percent and averaging 67 points per game, while CSC is averaging 48.5.

MSUB leads the all-time series with Chadron State, 7-1.  The Jackets have won seven-straight in the series and are 2-0 in Chadron.  MSUB won both meetings last year, including a 68-41 win Jan. 3, 2010, in Chadron. 

Following the Chadron State game, the Yellowjackets return home to prepare for the beginning of Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday and Saturday at Simon Fraser University and Western Washington University, respectively.  MSUB the opens a five game home stand Dec. 11 versus cross-town rival, Rocky Mountain College, at 7:30 p.m. in Alterowitz Gymnasium.
