Yellowjackets Entertain Rocky Monday

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings volleyball team will host cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College Monday at 7 p.m. in Alterowitz Gymnasium.  It will be the first of two meetings with the Bears this season.  MSUB enters with a 2-13 record overall, while Rocky is 13-5.

The Yellowjackets are coming off a 1-1 weekend where they won their first home game of the season Thursday in come from behind fashion with a 3-1 win over Alaska Fairbanks.  The Jackets were led by 15 kills from sophomore Geneva Blunt while senior Jennifer Boe added 11 kills.  Junior Brooke Tolman had 39 assists and freshman Adrienne Kelso came up with 18 digs to lead the team.  Junior Melissa Porter was deadly at the net as she had four solo block and four block assists. 

As a team, MSUB hit .154 for the match with 46 kills and 26 errors.  The team had 44 assists and 55 digs to go along with nine total blocks.

On Saturday, Alaska Anchorage downed the Yellowjackets in straight sets, 3-0.  Senior Jennifer Boe led the team with 13 kills as she hit a team-high .333 for the match.

This season, the Yellowjackets are led by Boe who leads the team with 173 kills.  She also leads the team with 178 digs.  Tolman leads the team with 444 assists and has a team-high .224 attack percentage.  She is third on the team in digs with 121.  Sophomore Hannah Johnson is second in kills with 101.

Defensively, junior Melissa Porter leads the team with 14 solo blocks and 47 total blocks.  Sophomore Geneva Blunt is second in rejections with 12 solo blocks and 38 total blocks. 

As a team, the Jackets are hitting .111 on the year with 549 kills and 336 errors.  MSUB's opponents are hitting .216 with 747 kills and 314 errors.

Rocky is led by Sara Brunner who leads the team with 170 kills and Jillian Bates who has 163 kills on the year.  Kristin Barott leads the team with 619 assists and a .333 attack percentage.  No other RMC player has more than 23 assists.  Jessica Overstreet and Jillian Stanek have 136 and 112 kills, respectively. 

Defensively, the Bears are led by Jamie Elenbaas who leads the team with 213 digs.  Overstreet is right behind with 210 digs, while Brunner has 175 and Barott has 137.  Overstreet also leads the team in solo blocks with 15 and is second in total blocks with 45.

As a team the Bears are hitting .277 on the year with 824 kills, 240 errors and 718 assists.  Conversely, the opponents are hitting .174 with 799 kills, 394 errors and 706 assists. 

MSUB leads the all-time series 35-14 and 24-4 at home.  The Bears have won two of the past three, but the Jackets have won 12 of 14.  Rocky's last win at MSUB was a 3-0 decision Sept. 24, 2002.  MSUB owns a slim 11-10 lead at Rocky.  The two teams will play at the Fortin Center, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
