Seawolves Sweep Yellowjackets, 3-0

BILLINGS, Mont. – Alaska Anchorage posted a 3-0 victory (22-25, 25-13, 25-19) over host Montana State Billings Saturday evening at Alterowitz Gymnasium.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 2-13 on the year and 2-5 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  Alaska Anchorage improved to 9-6 and 4-3 in conference play.

 

The Yellowjackets were led by 13 kills from senior Jennifer Boe as she hit a team-high .333.  She also tied for the team lead in digs with five.  Junior Brooke Tolman tallied 24 assists and freshman Adrienne Kelso chipped in five digs. 

 

As a team, the Yellowjackets hit .076 and hit a match-high .273 in the third set with 11 kills and five errors.  MSUB hit .000 in the first two sets.  The Jackets had 25 kills with 19 miscues. 

 

UAA was led by 14 kills from Jackie Matthisen as she hit .478 for the match.  Siobhan Johansen led the way with 21 assists, while Adriana Aukusitino chipped in 16 assists.  The Seawolves had six solo blocks and 10 total blocks. 

 

The Seawolves jumped out to an early 10-5 lead in the opening set, but the Yellowjackets came roaring back an tied the match with a 6-3 run and a timeout by UAA.

 

Out of the timeout, the Yellowjackets proceeded to tie the set at 14 and it was back-and-forth from there.  A costly service error and an attack error by the Yellowjackets gave UAA a 24-22 lead and a service ace followed for a 1-0 lead for the Seawolves.

 

The Seawolves pulled away in the second set as they took a 8-6 lead and swelled it to 20-10 with a 12-4 run and settled for a 25-13 win.  UAA closed the set with a 15-7 run.

 

Both teams hit their best in the third set.  UAA hit .458 with 15 kills and just four miscues, while the Yellowjackets hit .273.  The Seawolves again took the early 10-5 lead, but the Yellowjackets kept fighting and were unable to get any closer than six and lost the set 25-19. 

 

The Yellowjackets close out the home stand Monday with a non-conference matchup with cross-town rival Rocky Mountain College at 7 p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium.  MSUB then heads on the road for four matches, before returning home Oct. 21 versus Western Oregon.
