Nels Flanagan begins his sixth season as the assistant men's and women's track and field coach for throws during the 2025-26 academic year.

One of the top throwers in the history of the program, Flanagan works specifically with the Yellowjackets’ men’s and women’s throwers in his role on the staff.
 
Flanagan is MSUB’s record holder in the indoor track and field weight throw at 58-8 feet, and in the outdoor hammer throw at 174-4.5 feet. He earned all-conference and all-region honors as a senior in 2018, after placing third in the weight throw at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
 
A four-year competitor on the track and field team, Flanagan steadily progressed into record-breaking form and earned a GNAC Athlete of the Week award along the way. Flanagan was selected to the MSUB track & field all-decade team, released earlier this fall.

Flanagan is a native of Big Timber, Montana, and is a graduate of Sweet Grass County High School.
