Kevin Woodin

Kevin Woodin is in his fourth year as the head men’s and women’s golf coach after assuming the role in December of 2015. He is also in his 15th year as the head women’s basketball coach at MSUB.

The women’s golf team finished fourth and the men’s team sixth at the 2017-18 GNAC Championships. Senior Bailee Dexter and junior Shealyn Hafer were second-team all-conference golfers for the second straight year, as was sophomore Caleb Stetzner on the men’s side.

MSUB’s women’s golf team tied the GNAC record for team GPA in a single season in 2016-17, winning the Academic team title for the fourth time in five years with a mark of 3.74. The women’s team also finished third in the GNAC with a team scoring average of 317.1 strokes per round.

MSUB’s men’s golf team also had a historic season, breaking the school record for team single-round score with a 269 at the RMC Fall Invite. Caleb Stetzner earned all-conference honors and claimed GNAC Freshman of the Year under Woodin’s guidance.

In 2015-16, MSUB’s women’s golf team was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference academic team champion. Under his guidance, freshman Kortney McNeil broke MSUB’s record for a two-round score with a 146, and earned second-team all-GNAC honors. The MSUB men’s team was also recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America as an All-Academic team for the 2015-16 season.

Woodin was also the head boys golf coach at Billings West High School in 2015-16. He was named the Montana coach of the year after his team set an all-time Montana Class AA scoring record with a 580 score at the two-day state tournament. He also led the girls’ team to a fourth-place finish in 2015-16.

Woodin previously served as MSUB’s women’s golf head coach from 2007-09, a span during which he took the team from last place to second place in the conference. The second team Woodin coached also qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships, and he recruited one of the top golfers in MSUB history in Kalli Stanhope in the fall of 2008.

Stanhope advanced to the national tournament in the spring of 2009 in Findlay, Ohio, and still stands as the only female golfer at MSUB to achieve that feat. Stanhope also competed in basketball at MSUB for Woodin.

O’Dea High School is also the alma mater of former 1992 Master’s champion and PGA hall-of-famer Fred Couples.

Woodin is currently a Montana State Golf Association board member and the Montana State Junior Golf director for District #4. He is still an avid golfer and member at Laurel Golf Club.
